How to Clean Bodypoint Products

Now more than ever, during this time of pandemic, it is critically important that wheelchair users clean their medical equipment. Routine maintenance and cleaning not only ensures that the equipment will provide long-term use and maintain maximum functionality, but also protects the user from unsanitary conditions that can lead to illness.

Bodypoint’s sewn products, such as harnesses and pelvic positioning belts, are often worn by users for extended periods of time, and so have been designed for maximum comfort and easy care. We carefully select materials and sew them to exacting standards to ensure that padded products keep their shape, webbing resists abrasion, and stitches don’t pull out. And to ensure long life, these products are tested to guarantee they are machine washable and dryer compatible.

Consistent with World Health Organization recommendations for disinfection, Bodypoint sewn products can be machine washed with detergent in hot water (60° C /140° F) and tumble dried (or line dried).  We recommend the products be placed in a mesh bag or old pillowcase to prevent scratches on buckles or the washing machine. The laundering tests conducted by our Quality Assurance Department check that there is no fraying, delamination, or significant fading, and that shrinkage does not exceed 3% to ensure the product fit remains unchanged. In addition, we test for corrosion resistance and damage from the most common disinfectants used in homes and hospitals, such as hydrogen peroxide. Bodypoint buckles and hardware can be cleaned with alcohol, 0.5% hydrogen peroxide, or mild bleach solutions.

It is not just our sewn products that can be cleaned in hot water. Bodypoint’s Flex-Shaft Joystick Handles can be scrubbed with soap and hot water or run through the dishwasher! This is particularly important with our newest model, the Grooved Mushroom, because while beneficial for flex and tactile function, the grooves can also trap dirt. Bodypoint tested the process of cleaning it in what we call “The Groovy Peanut Butter Test”.

And, as always, Bodypoint’s products come with a limited-lifetime warranty. This means that Bodypoint warrants our products against defects in workmanship and materials arising from normal use by the original consumer.
